• SENIOR YEAR CALENDAR OF EVENTS

     

    September – December

    Get off to a good start academically. Be sure to meet with your School Counselor to conduct a Senior Review.

    • Be sure to check the scholarship bulletin!!
    • Attend Virtual College Fairs and Virtual College open houses. Information can be found on the College and Career Center web page.
    • Make a list of test names, registration deadlines, test dates and fees, college application deadlines, and financial aid application deadlines. Remember, you must take tests such as the SAT and/or ACT at least six weeks before scores must be submitted to colleges.  (Most 4-year colleges require these tests.)

    • Begin asking teachers, coaches, school counselors, and employers for letters of recommendation for your admissions and/or scholarship applications.
    • Work on application essays and resumes (seek help from teachers and school counselors).
    • Find out which financial aid applications are required by your colleges of choice. Also, please be sure to check the due dates.
    • Begin an organizer for each college you are interested in applying to.
    • Prepare your college applications. (Consider applying for Early Decision ONLY if you are very certain about your college choice)
    • PLEASE NOTE: If you plan to apply for Early Decision, you MUST be in contact with your counselor by 10/01/21.
    • 10-week marking period closes 11/14/21

     

    Financial Aid Information

     

    • You must apply for FAFSA on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. DO NOT SUBMIT BEFORE October 1, 2021.
    • Begin collecting family tax information (W2s, bank info. etc.) from 2020.
    • Get your income tax returns prepared early. Schools may request them to prove eligibility for financial aid.
    • Submit your completed FAFSA on-line as soon after October 1st as possible. Your TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) application can now be submitted with your FAFSA. 
    • KEEP COPIES OF ALL FORMS YOU SUBMIT!!!
    • NCCC will conduct FAFSA Help. These are virtual and by appointment only.  Please contact Ms. Fadel in the Career Center to schedule your appointment.

    January

    • Fill out your FAFSA if not completed already.
    • Look for your Student Aid Report (SAR) & TAP Report. Carefully review for errors.  If corrections need to be made, contact the Financial Aid Office(s) immediately.  Respond in a timely manner to any requests for information.  If you do not receive your Student Aid Report within four weeks of submitting your FAFSA, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at (319) 337-5665.
    • Financial Aid Award Notifications begin to be mailed to students.
    • Be sure to check the scholarship bulletin WEEKLY!!
    • Regents Exam Week – January 24-28, 2022
    • 20-week marking period closes 01/31/22

    February

    • Fill out your FAFSA if not completed already.
    • Students not enrolling in college should seek out and attend virtual career fairs or talk to military recruiters.
    • ASVAB registration begins in the Career Center.
    • Be sure to check the scholarship bulletin WEEKLY and follow all directions!

    March

    • Watch the mail for college acceptance letters—Compare the financial aid awards you receive. Make your final decision and send in the deposit by the deadline. Watch for important deadlines at your college of choice (housing, financial aid, etc.)  Check with your college of choice about the details of returning financial aid award letters.
    • ASVAB – Test administration

    • 30-week marking period closes 04/03/22

    May

    • Finalize your summer school or summer job plans.
    • Be sure to conduct a Senior Exit Interview with your School Counselor.
    • Be sure to check scholarship bulletin!!

    June

    • Students not planning to attend college should register with the employment service, check newspaper ads, take civil service exams, register with temporary employment agencies (these jobs often become permanent/full time), talk to military recruiters.
    • Regents Exams Week June 15-23
