Learning For All...Whatever It Takes

  • Niagara Falls Board of Education Meeting May 28, 2020

  • July 13 – July 20, 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Students:

The conversation about how and when schools will reopen for the 2020 – 2021 school year has been heating up as the summer flies by. The governor will be giving us some more direction this week and the District is sending a re-opening plan to the governor’s office by the end of the month. After the July 31 deadline for districts to submit plans, Governor Cuomo will issue a decision on the re-opening of schools. His announcement will come during the week of August 1 – 6; as soon as we hear any word at all, the District will immediately share it with you. In the meantime, we ask for your patience and we appreciate your cooperation very much.

COVID-19 testing is vital at this time. Health professionals need the data to assist them in their work and tracking the coronavirus; and citizens can enjoy peace of mind as they know their COVID-19 status. The District has been offering COVID-19 testing provided by Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Friday, July 17, 2020, testing will be taking place at Niagara Falls High School from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The testing is free and you do not need a prescription of any kind.

The return of our employees on a staggered basis continues to run smoothly. Thank you to the staff for co-operating with us by following the guidelines set by the District and New York State for this phase of reopening. To keep all of our employees, their families and our visitors safe, all staff members are completing a short screening questionnaire before arriving at work and a nurse takes each employee’s temperature upon his or her arrival at work. Congratulations to District employees for wearing face coverings and following social distancing guidelines. The Niagara Falls City School District is doing it the right way.

    Be safe and be well.

    Mark Laurrie, Superintendent

    Niagara Falls City School District
