About Mrs. Altman

Welcome! I am a passionate educator, and have taught science, community gardening, and food education since 1998. I have worked for the Niagara Falls City School District since 2019. I am married and have 2 kids, Sophie and Sam ages 17 and 15 respectively, a new puppy named Ryder (who is trouble!).

I LOVE to garden, see live music, go camping, travel, and spend as much time outdoors as possible!

I hold a Master in Public Health, Master’s in Science Education, and a BA in Environmental Science. I taught in the Lockport City School District, leaving to raise my family. I then worked for the Buffalo Museum of Science as an educator for their magnet school and as the Professional Development Coordinator. And now-missing the classroom, I'm here in Niagara Falls!

In addition to teaching middle school science, I have a desire to address health, disparities, and Western disease through public education and food access. I am a certified plant-based chef, holds a certification in plant-based nutrition, and teach cooking classes in the Buffalo area and own the company and website www.GardenFreshFoodie.com to address the root causes of Western Disease. I lecture about the health benefits of plant-based nutrition, and hold healthy, plant-based cooking classes for the community and Niagara Falls City students and teachers.

I have begun a healthy cooking class for our students. Please join me!!!
