Topic: Animal Colors

Day 1:

ELA     Reading Comprehension   Read and complete

Read Aloud Red Eyes or Blue Feathers, by Patricia M. Stockland

*Tell an adult how the animals' colors helps them in the wild.

Boost your vocabulary: camouflage is to hide or disguise their presence by blending in or changing their appearance.

 

Skills: *Write out your new sight words for the week three times each 

            (away, by, his, must, no, there).

 

Writing: *Choose your favorite animal from the read aloud and draw a picture of that animal. Then write a sentence(s) on how the animal's color helps them survive.

 

Math: *Today is on reviewing 2D Shapes.

          You should be able to name the shape, tell how many sides and angles (vertices) it has, and recognize everyday objects with that shape.

          Watch: 2D Shapes  Listen carefully!!

 

Science: *Take a picture of you camouflaged in your surroundings.

Send a picture on Remind or email it to your teacher.  Have fun blending in and can't wait to see how creative you can be!

Day 2:

ELA    Reading Comprehension   Read and complete

Read Aloud Chameleon, Chameleon, by Joy Cowley

*Discuss with an adult, how the chameleon's colors change on its journey through the book.  Discuss how the photographs and the text go together.  

An informational text is nonfiction writing (true/facts).  How do you know that this story is an informational or nonfiction text?

 

Skills:  The letter Hh is our letter/sound of the week.

            Watch: The Letter H Song 

*Practice writing capital H and lowercase h.

 

Writing: This week we will learn about Report Writing. Report writing is a piece of writing that gives facts or information on a specific topic.  *Today you need to draw a picture of a chameleon and write "Chameleon" above your picture as your title.  You will continue this report tomorrow.

Math :  Remembering what you learned about 2D shapes. Draw and label these 2D shapes on a piece of paper:  circle, oval, square, triangle, rectangle,

           rhombus, trapezoid, and hexagon.     

 

Science: Watch: Camouflage Animal Hide and Seek

              *Give 2 examples of 2 different animals and how they camouflage? 

You can draw, write, or have a parent scribe your response.

Day 3:

Reread Chameleon, Chameleon, by Joy Cowley

*Discuss three or more things that you have learned about a chameleon. 

*What is the most interesting fact that you think people don't know about chameleons?

 

Skills: The letter Kk is also the letter/sound of the week.

           Watch: The Letter K     

* Practice writing capital K and lowercase k.

 

Writing: *Take out your picture of the chameleon that you drew with the title on top.

Today, you need to write 2 things you learned or know about a chameleon. Remember to start with a capital, have space between words, and end with a period.  

 

Math: *Today we're learning about 3D shapes or solid shapes.

You should be able to identify them by name and know everyday objects with that shape.

           Watch:  3D Shapes   Listen carefully!!

 

Science:  A habitat is the natural home or envionment of a plant, or animal. 

Draw a picture showing how a snake blends in with its habitat.

Day 4:

ELA   Reading Comprehension   Read and complete

Read aloud: Giraffe Nonfiction Reader

 *Rewatch read aloud again if needed, and create a list of 3 facts you learned about giraffes.

 

Skills: *Tap out the following words: not, lap, kid, rug, yet.

Then try and write each word as you sound it out.

 

Writing: *Write a report on giraffes.

          1. Write title at top - "Giraffe "

          2.  Draw a picture of a giraffe.

          3. Write a sentence(s) of 2 or 3 facts you learned about giraffes.

          4. Make sure to have a capital, spacing, punctuation, and that it makes sense.

 

Math- *Trace each shape, say the name, and trace how many sides that shape has.

             2D Shapes / 1-10

 

Science- Watch: What is a habitat?

Tell an adult what an habitat is? Who or what needs habitats?

Day 5:

ELA     Reading Comprehension    Read and complete

* Think about the books, Red Eyes or Blue Feathers, Chameleon, Chameleon, Giraffes, you have listened to this week.

* Dictate to an adult, how did an animals' colors help them in all three stories?

* Name one new thing you learned from each of the stories.

 

Skills:* Read and review this weeks sight words (away, by, his, must, no, there)

 

Writing: *Write about an animal you like and give two facts about that animal.

Please include a title,  and picture of the animal you chose.

Remember to start with a capital, spacing, and punctuation.

 

Math: *Write how many faces (flat surface of the shape) and vertices (corner or angle) are on each 3D shape. 3D Shapes

  

Science: *Draw a picture of you in your own habitat.

Label you and where you live in the picture.
