• Hello Students and Parents,

I hope that you are all safe!  I really miss working with all of the students and hopefully we will be back to school soon!  Until then, I have put together some activities that you can do from home for Reading Recovery.  I will get materials and books to you.  Once you have these items, you can complete the following activities daily!  If you have any questions, please contact me at lgraff@nfschools.net.

    Ms. Graff

**Parents- please use the tabs on the left side to access materials, helpful hints and on-line materials.

    Daily activities:

    • Read 2  familiar books from Pioneer Valley on-line (in the beginning they will not be familiar).  Parents need to go to "Read Leveled Books Online" link on the left side and create an account.  Once you do that I can assign books for students.  You should be reading these books easily and making sure that your reading sounds like talking!  Make sure that you read like the character when the character speaks!
    • Letter Work- select a group of letters from the sheets that I gave you.  Pay very close attention to the starting points!  Practice forming letters correctly in the tab section of your notebook,  remembering to always start at the top!
    • Word Work- You can practice reading and writing your sight words.  Read a word ("take a picture of it with your eyes"), turn it over, try to write it on your dry erase board, check the word to see if you are right.  If not, write it correctly.  This is how you will put the words in your brain!  You are not just copying the word!
    • Writing-  Use the notebook that I gave you.  Write one "story" about a book that you read.  Write another "story" about yourself (how you are feeling, what you are doing, what you are wishing for, etc.).  While writing, try your best to write each word.   If the word has one part, try to say the word slowly and write down the sounds that you hear in the word.  If the word is long, clap parts and write each part while saying it slowly. Use the sight words that I sent to you to check those words once you have tried it yourself.
    • Select 1 new book from the level that you were given.  This will be a book that you will need to work on.  There may be some tricky parts that you will need to think about and check the word with your eyes.  Tell your parents to use some of the prompts I put on the tabs on the left.  Someone at home can also talk to you about the book when you are finished reading it.  There is a tab on the left for discussion questions.
