Third Grade Art Project for 6/1/20:

    Recycled Materials Sculpture

The following art project is about creating an interesting sculpture using recycled materials.  A sculpture is a three dimensional piece of art.  What that means is you are able to view the art from all sides.  Recycled materials are materials you probably have around your house.  Materials like empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, empty cereal or food boxes, small empty shipping packages from stores or online shopping, leftover paper or newspaper, and scraps of cardboard.  There are many artists who build sculptures and art using recycled materials.

You are to gather whatever recycled materials you can.  Please check with your parents first to make sure you can use the recycled materials you chosen.  Once you have gathered those materials, use whatever dry media you have to color and design the recycled materials.  After you have finished coloring and designing your recycled materials put them together in a creative and interesting way to make your sculpture.  You are going to have to use some type of scotch tape, masking tape, or tape to secure your recycled materials together.  If you don’t have tape, you can try glue, but you will have to wait for the glue to dry.  Try to build your sculpture to be freestanding (stands up on its’ own); if you cannot do that just build your sculpture lying flat.  Keep in mind working in three dimensions is trickier than working in two dimensions.  Make sure to have fun, be creative, try new things, and do the best job you can.

This art project can be created with any dry media you have.  Dry mediums are: pencil, crayons, colored pencils, markers, and pen.

** Bonus: Do the project again but this time make a completely different looking and type of sculptural design.  Which one did you like best, your first attempt or your second?

    * When you have finished your art share your sculpture with someone.  See if that person can recognize what your sculpture is and then explain to them what you did.
