Artsy Hands
Supplies: Paper and any of these: pencils, crayons, colored pencils, markers, pen or paint made for young artists.
Hands are great subjects for art. Have you ever seen these hand pictures?
Italian artist Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the picture on your left. It is the most famous section of the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The Sistine Chapel is located in Vatican City, Rome, Italy. It took Michelangelo from 1508 to 1512 to finish his paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Over 500 years ago!
Pablo Picasso was born in Spain on October 25, 1881.
He created the picture on your right in July of 1958. He was almost 77 years-old. The picture, called “Bouquet of Peace,” represents sharing, friendship and love. Picasso believed in peace on earth.
*Think about hands and visualize some of these: Raise your hand. Wash your hands. Keep your hands to yourself. Clapping hands. Waving hands. Wave your hands in the air like you just don’t care. Holding hands. Jazz hands. Kids’ hands. Adult hands. Baby hands. Etc.
*Trace your hands. Trace someone else’s hands. Draw hand outlines without tracing. Add details like knuckles and fingernails. Overlap them. Fill them with colors or patterns. Show them in action. Turn them into animals. Draw large hands. Draw small hands. Make a poster about hand washing. Whatever you want! Be creative! Have fun! Share the fun!
