• Hello to all of my students,

I filled up bags with your supplies in them at school. They are waiting for you with your crayon boxes, any extra supplies that you did not use, headphones (if you brought them in) and any artwork that was hanging up in our school. You can use all of your supplies next year! Make sure you visit Cataract on June 1,2, or 3 between 11am-1pm at our door to ask for your bag. An adult will meet you at our door #3 to grab your bag for you. (Wear a mask and stand 6 feet apart too.)

Bring in any work that you have completed when you come to school. I look forward to seeing your writing and phonics work too!

I can't believe that our year is almost over. I wish we could've said "goodbye" and "have a good summer" to each other. I will look for you next year and give a silent wave if we are walking with our classes in the hallway. :)

Have a good summer and see you next year! Love, Mrs. Richards

I have one phonics/skills activity per day for you to complete. There are 5 total. Follow the directions on the pages. To work on the activities, click on Phonics/Skills

This week's story is a fantasy. A fantasy is a story that tells about settings, characters or events that COULDN'T happen in real life. A fantasy story is make-believe. We are going to listen to another story about Frog and Toad. We listened to another story about them earlier this year called, The Garden. Do you remember that story? This story is called, The Kite from Days with Frog and Toad.

The skill we will focus on is learning the story structure  - the characters, setting and plot of the story.

To listen to the story, click on this week's title below.

VERY IMPORTANT: After you get to the website, click on "Contents." Then "Unit 6" will appear. Click on "Unit 6." Lesson 27 will pop up. Click on "Lesson 27." You will see the 3rd choice, "The Kite." Click on "The Kite." Your child will recognize the pages. He/she can listen & turn the pages of the story.

The Kite from Days with Frog & Toad

Now that you listened to the story, answer the following questions to an adult in your home.

    • Who are the main characters?
    • What is the setting of the story? (Setting is where the story takes place)
    • What is Frog and Toad's problem? (Use the pictures to help you answer the problem)
    • What does Frog do after the kite doesn't fly the first time?
    • What are some of the things Frog does over and over in the story?
    • How do you know Frog and Toad's problem is solved?

This week we have an informational text to listen to. It is called, Measuring Weather and it will give TRUE facts about how scientists read the weather. It will show real pictures of thermometers, and a windsock. It will also give information in a graph like we learned about in math! Listen to the story and tell an adult the answers to the graph questions.

VERY IMPORTANT: After you get to the website, click on "Contents." Then "Unit 6" will appear. Click on "Unit 6." Lesson 27 will pop up. Click on "Lesson 27." The 6th choice you see is "Measuring Weather." Your child will recognize the pages. He/she can listen & turn the pages of the story.

     Writing

We will continue with opinion writing until the end of this school year. In opinion writing, you are going to state your opinion, give 3 reasons as to why you feel this way and have a closing (also called an ending).

This week, think about what is your favorite sport?

     Parts of Opinion Writing:

    1. Topic sentence tells your opinion, or what you think about the topic.
    2. Detail sentences support the reason for your opinion. The word because may be used to give a reason. Give 3 (or more) reasons!
    3. Ending sentence may restate your opinion.

Here are some ending sentences that you can choose from-

    • What is your favorite sport?
    • Is __________ your favorite sport?
    • I love _______________!
    • I can't wait until I play __________________!
    • Do you want to play ___________________ with me?

Here is an example on how to write an opinion: (don't write the words topic sentence, detail sentences, ending sentence. I wrote that for you to understand what the sentences are.)

    My Favorite Sport

(topic sentence) My favorite sport is volleyball. (detail sentences) I love volleyball because I enjoy playing it outside and in the sand. Another reason I love volleyball is because everyone gets to rotate your position and not stand in the same place all of the time. My last reason for loving volleyball is because I can set team players up to spike the ball. (Ending sentence) Would you like to play volleyball with me?
