This week we have a fable to listen to. A fable is a short story in which a character learns a lesson. This fable is written as a play. If we were in school, we would've had different students take on the different parts to act out the play. Maybe you can find a sibling or a parent to read the parts of the play and act it out at home. The Narrator of the play helps tell the story.
VERY IMPORTANT: After you get to the website, click on "Contents." Then "Unit 6" will appear. Click on "Unit 6." Lesson 27 will pop up. Click on "Lesson 27." The 6th choice you see is "The Wind & the Sun." Your child will recognize the pages. He/she can listen & turn the pages of the story.

Writing
We will continue with opinion writing until the end of this school year. In opinion writing, you are going to state your opinion, give 3 reasons as to why you feel this way and have a closing (also called an ending).
This week, think about what is the best thing to do on a warm, and sunny day.
Parts of Opinion Writing:
- Topic sentence tells your opinion, or what you think about the topic.
- Detail sentences support the reason for your opinion. The word because may be used to give a reason. Give 3 (or more) reasons!
- Ending sentence may restate your opinion.
Here are some ending sentences that you can choose from-
- What is your favorite thing to do on a warm and sunny day?
- Is __________ your favorite thing to do?
- I love _______________!
- I can't wait until I __________________!
- Do you want to ___________________ with me?
Here is an example on how to write an opinion: (don't write the words topic sentence, detail sentences, ending sentence. I wrote that for you to understand what the sentences are.)
My favorite thing to do on a sunny day
(Topic sentence) My favorite thing to do on a warm and sunny day is go for a bike ride. (Detail sentences) I love to go bike riding. It is great exercise for me. Another reason I would choose bike riding is because I can ride by my friends houses and wave at them or yell "hi" when I ride by. I also love to be outside and bike riding lets me be out in the fresh air. (Ending sentence) Do you want to come bike riding with me?
You can make an illustration to go along with your opinion writing, if you wish. Email it to me, or you can drop it off with your other work in a bin at any school. Make sure it is altogether with a rubber band, in an envelope, or folder with YOUR name, MY name and CATARACT written on the front so it'll get to me. I look forward to seeing all of your work!
