Monday
Book - Red Eyes or Blue Feathers
Questions: What does the author want us to learn about in this book? (author's purpose)
How do the animals' colors help them to survive?
What animal was the most interesting to learn about?
Writing Task:
Here is an example of informational writing. Please choose an animal from the book. Write 1 to 3 informational sentences about the animal. Draw a picture.

Tuesday
Book- Chameleon, Chameleon
Questions: What is the author's purpose? What does she want us to learn about?
Why was the chameleon looking for a new home?
What did you learn about chameleons and their changing colors?
Writing Task: Write 1 to 3 informational sentences on chameleons in your notebook or on paper. Illustrate. Use your sounds. Use the bee paper example from Monday as a reference
Wednesday
Book- Who Lives in the Woods?
Questions:What does the author want us to learn about in this book? (author's purpose)
Which animal did you find most interesting? Why?
How are the animals in this book alike?
What new information did you learn?
Writing Task: Write 1 to 3 informational sentences on animals who live in the woods. Draw a picture. Use your sounds.
Thursday
Book- Over in the Ocean
Questions: What does thev author want us to learn about in this book?
What are your three favorite ocean animals mentioned in this book?
What are some of the words the author used to describe how these ocean animals move? example, "slithered"
Writing Task: Choose your favorite ocean animal from the book. Write 1 to 3 informational sentences. Illustrate. Use your sounds.
Friday
Book- A Color of His Own
Questions:Why is the chameleon sad?
How are chameleons different from most animals?
Why does the chameleon wish to be only one color?
Why do the two chameleons decide to stay together?
Writing Task: Opinion Writing- What was your favorite book this week? Why was it your favorite? Parents, help your child to slowly use their sounds to write.
Example: I like the book on forest animals best because I love bears and deer.

Guided Readers for Additional Practice
Fundations
Drill: Practice pointing and going over letters and sounds.
Tap out and write at least 5 words from this list daily
Mark them, like we did in class.

Parents: You can read these sentences to your child and have them use their sounds to write one sentence a day in their notebook, or on paper.
For Sentence Dictations:
( You read to them and they use their sounds to write on paper- It is okay if not perfect. This is a good indicator of their knowledge of letter sounds)
