Transitional Teaching Program
Transitional Teaching is a program for students in grades 7 – 12 that for a period of time cannot attend their District home school.TT runs from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m., Monday through Friday.
TT students receive instruction in Language Arts,Social Studies, Math, and Science. Teachers in the TT Program utilize the APEX Learning curriculum (www.apexlearning.com). APEX learning is an on-line web-based technology program that allows students to complete their work on computers, and progress in each subject area at their own pace. All Apex learning is completed under the direction of the classroom subject area teacher. High school students (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12thgraders) can earn credits toward graduation if they successfully complete APEX on-line classes.
Student attendance and academic progress in the TT program are closely monitored throughout the school year. Students that perform well do have the opportunity to return to their home school if recommended by the CEC Administrative Team, and accepted by their home school Principal.
Alternative School Program
The Alternative School program is designed for students that require an educational setting that is different from the“traditional” school environment. The Alternative School program runs from10:15am – 2:30pm, Monday – Friday. The Alternative School program offers students the opportunity to get caught up on high school credits that they may have fallen behind on.
Alternative School students receive instruction in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science. Students also have the opportunity to take part in Independent Studies in special area subjects such as Art, Health, Music, and Physical Education. Class size in the Alternative School program is small, which allows for more small group and one-on-one instruction from the teacher. Alternative School teachers utilize the APEX Learning program with students. APEX Learning is an on-line web based technology program that allows students to complete their work on computers and progress in each subject area at their own pace under the direction of the classroom teacher. Alternative school teachers also integrate hands on project-based learning experiences in addition to the APEX Learning program. Students also benefit from various health seminars from outside agencies like Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County, Niagara County Healthy Neighborhoods, guest speakers, counseling groups, and career trade program opportunities in the upper grade levels.
The Alternative School program is a great option for students that thrive in a smaller learning environment. Please call 286-0778for more information about the Transitional Teaching or Alternative School programs.
