School Board Elections/Budget Vote
The District Budget Vote and Board of Education Election takes place May 19, 2026.
Below is the only proposition which will appear on the ballot (actual amount of budget to be determined and posted at a later date, after Board votes on Superintendent's recommendation):
PROPOSITION NO. 1 - GENERAL BUDGET
Shall the following resolution be adopted to-wit:
 Shall the Board of Education of the City School District of the City of Niagara Falls be authorized to expend the sums set forth in the proposed 2026-2027 budget and to levy the necessary tax?
Candidates
Three members will be elected to the Board of Education, two of whom each will serve a full five (5) year term commencing July 1, 2026, the other of whom will serve a term commencing May 20, 2026 and terminating June 30, 2028. Petitions may be picked up from the District Clerk’s Office, 630 66th Street, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, beginning March 2, 2026.
A Board of Education member of the City School District of the City of Niagara Falls must meet the following qualifications:
a) A citizen of the United States;
b) Eighteen (18) years of age or older;
c) Able to read and write;
d) A legal resident of the District for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one (1) year prior to the election;
e) Cannot be an employee of the City School District of the City of Niagara Falls;
f) The only member of his/her family (that is, cannot be a member of the same household) on the City School District of the City of Niagara Falls Board of Education;
g) May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office, including, but not limited to Superintendent, clerk, tax collector, treasurer, or librarian, or an employee of the Board. In small city school districts, Board members may not hold any city office other than that of police officer or firefighter.
h) Must not have been removed from a school district office within one (1) year preceding the date of appointment or election to the Board.
Qualifications to Register
To qualify for voter registration in New York State, you must:
- be a United States Citizen;
- be 18 years old (you may pre-register at 16 or 17 but cannot vote until you are 18);
- be a resident of this state and the county, city, or village for at least 30 days before the election;
- not be in prison for a felony conviction;
- not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court;
- not claim the right to vote elsewhere
