NFHS German ClubDescription: The mission of the club is to promote mutual understanding and life long friendships between the students and the two nations, and increase knowledge of the students of the World community in which they live. The German Club promotes an exchange of students between the Heisenberg Gymnasium of Dortmund Germany and Niagara Falls High School. Each fall, a group of approximately 15 students and 2 teachers from Dortmund, Germany visit with the students and teachers of Niagara Falls High School. The Germans stay with their American host families in Niagara Falls for about 2 weeks. The students attend school and visit cultural and historical locations in Western New York and Southern Ontario. In the summer of the following year, the American students fly to Germany where they stay with their German host families and visit the many interesting sights of the Ruhr Valley, Germany and England. The club encourages all students to participate and is always seeking new members. It is recommended that a student join as a freshman/sophomore and target their senior year as the year that they travel. During the course of the two years between joining and travel, the students are encouraged to participate in the numerous fundraising activities to help defray the cost of the trip. The fundraising activities include, but are not limited to, concession stand sales at sporting events, hot dog sales, candy sales, raffles and drawings.
