  • Financial Aid Information (FAFSA)

    You must apply for FAFSA on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov!!

    DO NOT SUBMIT BEFORE OCTOBER 1, 2018!

    • Begin collection family tax information from 2017. (W2s, bank info, etc)
    • Get your income tax returns prepared early  Schools may request them ot prove eligibility for financial aid.
    • Submit your FAFSA on-line on October 1st or as soon after that date as possible.  Your TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) application can now be submitted with your FAFSA.
    • KEEP COPIES OF ALL FORMS YOU SUBMIT

     

    FAFSA presentations will be in all Government classes.

     

    NFHS Financial Aid Night will be presented in November.

     

    Get Financial Aid Application assistance by attending College Goal.  See your school counselor about signing up!

  • Senior Portraits

    October 25 by appointment only. 

    Sign up outside room 142.  Tuxedo and drapes are provided. 

    This is the last opportunity seniors have to get their portrait taken.

  • What to do:

    SEPTEMBER - DECEMBER

    • Get off to a good academic start.  Be sure to meet with your School Counselor to conduct a SENIOR REVIEW.
    • Check the Scholarship Bulletin page weekly for information on when and how to apply.  Scholarships = money!
    • Meet College Admissions Representatives who are visiting our school.
    • Attend local College Fairs.  The Career Center will have sign up information. This year the College Consortium will be held on October 1, 2018 at 8:15am.
    • Meet with our Armed Forces Reprsentatives:
      • Marines - 1st Tuesday of every month
      • Army - 2nd Tuesday of every month
      • Navy - 1st Monday of every month
      • Army National Guard - 4th Tuesday of every month
      • Air Force - call 716-433-2215 for an appointment
    • Make a list of test names, registration deadlines, test dates and fees, college application deadlines and financial aid application deadlines.  Remember, you must take tests such as the SAT and/or ACT at least six weeks prior to score submission deadlines to colleges.  (Most 4 year colleges require these tests)

    • Begin asking teachers, coaches, school counselors, and employers for letters of recommendation for your admissions and/or scholarship applications.
    • Work on application essays and resumes.  Seek help from teachers and school counselors.
    • Visit your top school choices.  Interview some students, faculty and staff if possible.  Attend special programs such as senior visitation tours, college fairs, and financial aid nights.  many colleges have classes on Columbus Day and Veteran's Day when we do not. This is a good time to visit area colleges.
    • Find out which financial aid applications are required by your colleges of choice and please be sure to check the due dates.
    • Begin an organizer for each college youa re interested in applying to.
    • Prepare your college applications.  Consider applying for Early Decision ONLY IF YOU ARE VERY CERTAIN ABOUT YOUR COLLEGE CHOICE.
    • If you play to apply for Early Decision, you MUST SEE YOUR COUNSELOR BY OCTOBER 1, 2018.
    • 10 WEEK MARKING PERIOD CLOSES NOVEMBER 09, 2018

    JANUARY

    • Fill out your FAFSA if not completed already.
    • Look for your Student Aid Report (SAR) & TAP Report.  Carefully review for errors.  If corrections need to be maid, contact the Financial Aid Offices immediately.  Respond in a timely manner to any requests for information.  if you do not receive your Student Aid Report within four weeks of submitting your FAFSA, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at (319) 337-5665.
    • Financial Aid Award Notifications begin to be mailed to students

    • Regents Exam Week January 22-25, 2019.
    • 20 WEEK MARKING PERIOD CLOSES JANUARY 25, 2019

    FEBRUARY

    • Fill out your FAFSA if not completed already.
    • Students not enrolling college should attend career fairs or talk to military recruiters.
    • ASVAB-Sign up for the test in the Career Center!

    MARCH

    • Watch the mail for college acceptance letters.  Compare the financial aid awards you receive.  make your final decision and send in the deopsit by the deadline provided by your college.  Watch for other important deadlines at the college of your choice, i.e.:  housing deposit, financial aid, etc.  Check with your college of choice about details of returnign financial aid award letters.
    • Attend the National College Fair at the Buffalo Convention Center.
    • ASVAB Testing will be adiministerd 3/21/19.
    • Common Scholarship Application will be available.

    APRIL

    • ASVAB Career Workshop April 4, 2019
    • 30 WEEK MARKING PERIOD CLOSES April 5, 2019

    MAY

    • Finalize your summer school or summer job plans.
    • Be sure to conduct a Senior Exit Interview with your School Counselor.

    JUNE

    • Students not planning to attend college should register with the employment service, check newspaper ads, take civil service exams, register with temporary employment agencies (these often become permanent/full time positions), and speak with military recruiters.
