For some time, the District has owned some properties for which it no longer has a productive use. The District shares the general community feeling that vacant buildings are not positive in healthy communities, and has entertained offers to make these properties vibrant parts of the community, put back to good use.  In each case, any purchaser has the obligation to develop the property in question, or in the alternative, to demolish it.

It is the District’s belief that the intent of the purchasers is to develop the buildings on the propositions. Any time the District, being a public entity, wishes to sell, purchase, or transfer property, the public must be given the opportunity to vote on that transaction.

Therefore, a public referendum will be December 4, 2013, with polls open from noon to 9 p.m.

As a reminder, polling places changed last year for school district elections only.

Here is a link to the City's presentation on this (and other) issues.
